La Universidad de Sheffield busca un historiador doctor para investigar sobre el exilio en la Antigüedad Tardía

At the Department of History of the University of Sheffield we are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our research team on the AHRC funded project ‘The Migration of Faith: Clerical Exile in Late Antiquity (325-c.600)’, a collaborative international project between the Universities of Sheffield, Aarhus (Denmark), Halle (Germany) and Vienna (Austria).  You will work as a Research Associate for 36 months, joining a team led by Principal Investigator Dr Julia Hillner (Sheffield), and Co-Investigators Professor Jörg Ulrich (University of Halle) and Dr Jakob Engberg (University of Aarhus).

The project seeks to investigate the cultural encounters generated by legal banishment of religious dissidents in late antiquity and their influence on the institutionalisation of the Christian church in this period, as expressed in the development of Christian law, doctrine and ritual.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject area together with a good working knowledge of late antique church history. You will have excellent knowledge of Latin and Ancient Greek, be able to work with electronic datasets and have excellent communication skills. You will have research experience in handling a range of late antique sources.
Research experience in prosopography, knowledge of further ancient languages (Syriac, Coptic), and knowledge of German are desirable.

This post is fixed-term for a period of three years and is available from 1 August 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is full-time for 24 months (1.0 fte), and part-time for 12 months thereafter (0.5 fte).
