The project seeks to investigate the cultural encounters generated by legal banishment of religious dissidents in late antiquity and their influence on the institutionalisation of the Christian church in this period, as expressed in the development of Christian law, doctrine and ritual.
You will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject area together with a good working knowledge of late antique church history. You will have excellent knowledge of Latin and Ancient Greek, be able to work with electronic datasets and have excellent communication skills. You will have research experience in handling a range of late antique sources.
Research experience in prosopography, knowledge of further ancient languages (Syriac, Coptic), and knowledge of German are desirable.
This post is fixed-term for a period of three years and is available from 1 August 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is full-time for 24 months (1.0 fte), and part-time for 12 months thereafter (0.5 fte).
